The ‘Swacchta Hi Seva – Shramdaan’ effort in the centre of the capital was led by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in a spectacular show of cooperation and dedication to cleanliness. Students, teachers, and residents of the University of Delhi all took part in the event actively. The “One Date, One Hour, Together” project, known as “Ek Tareekh, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath,” was launched as part of the “Swachhata Hi Seva” campaign to mark the ninth anniversary of the Swachh Bharat Mission. On the morning of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary, at 10 a.m., this significant endeavour was carried out.
Minister Pradhan noted that this project had grown into a massive, people-driven movement when he addressed the audience. He extended his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his unwavering commitment to establishing a Swachha Bharat that is free of trash and waste.
“The people-led movement known as jan-andolan that we are currently witnessing is just the beginning. The Union Education Minister emphasised, “With this, we reaffirm our resolve to make our academic institutions garbage-free zones.
This inspiring event showcased the power of collective action and the dedication of the Indian youth and academic community to the vision of a cleaner and more sustainable India. It highlighted the significance of involving students and educators in actively contributing to the cleanliness and sanitation drive in the country.
The ‘Swacchta Hi Seva – Shramdaan’ programme supports the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’s overall goal of promoting sanitization, hygiene, and cleanliness throughout the country, which was established on October 2, 2014. The movement has received much support and participation throughout the years from the general public, governmental entities, educational institutions, and numerous organisations, turning it into a poster child for community-driven change.
As we celebrate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, a prominent advocate of cleanliness and hygiene, events like these serve as a fitting tribute to his legacy and his unwavering commitment to social and environmental causes.
The “Swacchta Hi Seva – Shramdaan” initiative, which Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan is leading in the Patel Chest Institute neighbourhood, is a prime example of the spirit of group responsibility and the commitment to building a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future for India. It is evidence that genuine change starts at the local level when people and communities band together to alter things for the better.
